Defining Catfishing

Catfishing is a form of social engineering whereby a malicious actor uses the likeness of another person to impersonate them on social media including online dating sites, often for the purposes of facilitating romance scams. Other purposes include for monitoring team members by coaches, faciliated by the increased information available after having a connection request accepted. Catfishing is also called catphishing.
