Defining Sockpuppet

A sockpuppet is a fake account, typically on social media platforms, which is used to provide support for the sockpuppeteer's arguments by engaging in activities such as upvoting and downvoting comments, swaying online discourse in the favour of the sockpuppeter. Sockpuppeteering can be used for other malicious purposes including argument manipulation and abusive tactics such as dogpiling. Sockpuppeteering on a larger scale may be referred to as astroturfing.
