What is Availability in Cybersecurity | Definition and Meaning

Availability in the CIA triad of cybersecurity is the ability for authorized users to access the system and its data at any given time . It relates to the concept of uptime, which is the amount of time a system is functional and available for use. Availability also includes the assurance that the system and its data are protected from malicious attacks and other accidents that could cause data loss or disruption of service. Availability is a key component of any security system as it ensures that the system and its data can be accessed by authorized users when they need it.

  • A DDoS attack renders services unavailabile to an agent, thus resulting in violation of the availability aspect of cybersecurity.
